Wildfire Recovery Specialist

Job Status: Full Time, Salaried, Non-Exempt, Temporary Duration through June 2022

**Note: all staff are currently working from home due to COVID-19. A home office set-up stipend and monthly internet contribution are in place for the duration of required telework. DevNW is currently evaluating our longer term telework policy, and may go to a hybrid model. This position may be able to work entirely remotely.**

Job Salary: $36,670-47,330

Benefits: medical, dental and vision insurance; a deferred compensation retirement plan that includes an employer match (eligibility for the plan begins after one year of employment); paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; optional alternative schedule of 5/8s, 4/10s, or 4/9s+4.

Purpose of the Position:

DevNW is looking to bring on a Wildfire Recovery Specialist in our Clackamas Co. office to help our community members impacted by wildfires. The position is currently funded through June 2022, with the hope of continuation after based on funding availability.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide one-on-one counseling that assess individual needs through a trauma-informed
  • lens;
  • Identify and provide clarity on next steps in the financial and housing rebuild process in a
  • way that is easy to understand and reduces stress for individuals;
  • Review and support individuals in submitting FEMA, SBA, insurance, mortgage or other
  • claims and applications as needed;
  • Connect with local resources to support short- and long-term individual needs;
  • Support local systems work, including:
    • Attending long-term recovery meetings
    • Analyzing and identifying changes to established systems (e.g. planning, permitting, etc.) to better meet the needs of families recovering
    • Identifying trends in need to better help DevNW support housing rebuilding efforts

Additional Duties:

  • Other specific projects as assigned or developed

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Wildfire Recovery Specialist does not provide direct staff supervision.

Job-Specific Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or a combination of experience to demonstrate needed skills;
  • Commitment to the ideals of equity, asset building, economic justice, and creating economic opportunities for low- to moderate-income families;
  • Effective and creative problem solving;
  • Interpersonal skills including empathy and encouragement;
  • A strong desire to serve clients who are recovering from a traumatic experience;
  • Experience working in, or learning new, complex systems and processes;
  • Communicate information clearly and accurately verbally and in writing;
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with individuals and groups;
  • Ability to thrive in a job that is fast-paced and varies from one day to the next;
  • Willingness and ability to adapt quickly as program and organizational needs evolve;
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a close-knit team, with equal ease;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook;
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours; travel to other locations in Oregon;
  • Unless a fully remote position, must have valid Oregon driver’s license and ability to be covered by organizational insurance in order to use company vehicles for work travel, and/or must have reliable transportation, auto insurance and maintain a valid driver’s license (mileage reimbursement provided for work travel in own vehicle).
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard (or adaptive equipment) and associated software for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email and calendar/scheduling programs.
